In 2023, UK landscape architecture students visited Paris, Kentucky to help redesign the area around the city’s Solid Waste Transfer Station. After meeting with local officials and residents, they created master plans featuring green spaces, trails, and community amenities. Their designs inspired the city to begin revitalization efforts, including building a new $4.5 million recycling center. Now graduating, the students returned to see the impact of their work, reflecting on the experience as a defining moment in their careers.

Redevelopment matters. It takes community effort.

The City of Paris, KY seeks to empower local citizens, neighborhood organizations, businesses, and leaders to guide investment and redevelopment in the community. Born from the ongoing efforts to relocate the former City of Paris incinerator site on Stewart Street, the City of Paris seeks to provide the community with updates on on the ongoing incinerator and dump site's assessment and cleanup efforts, as well as additional redevelopment efforts throughout the city. Through this web portal the City of Paris will also share how citizens and community groups can become involved in identifying brownfield sites, and prioritizing sites for action and intervention to promote their redevelopment.
